SVS VQI CARDIAC RISK INDEX (VQI CRI)
Designed by the SVS PSO to provide accurate, patient-specific risk estimates that guide decision-making and informed consent, the VQI-CRI uses a small set of approximately 10 predictors (preoperative patient characteristics and planned procedure details) to predict the chance that a patient will have an in-hospital postoperative myocardial infarction for five primary vascular surgery procedures, including:
Carotid Endarterectomy
Applicable to any primary, non-emergent carotid endarterectomy
Endovascular AAA Repair
Applicable to any primary endovascular repair for infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm, excluding ruptured aortic aneurysm
Infrainguinal Bypass
Applicable to any primary, non-emergent infrainguinal bypass for aneurysmal or occlusive disease for indications of claudication, rest pain, tissue loss, or acute ischemia, excluding aorto-iliac/femoral bypass or extra-anatomic bypass such axillary-femoral or femoral-femoral bypass
Open AAA Repair
Applicable to any primary open infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, excluding suprarenal, thoracic or thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm repair or any ruptured aortic aneurysm
Suprainguinal Bypass
Applicable to any primary, non-emergent suprainguinal bypass for aneurysmal or occlusive disease for indications of claudication, rest pain, tissue loss, or acute ischemia
risk calculators based on SVS VQI DATA
SVS VQI physicians have the opportunity to create their own risk calculators based on proposals approved by SVS PSO Research Advisory Councils. To make these calculators practical in a clinical setting, the SVS PSO has partnered with QxMD Software, a company dedicated to creating free, high quality, point-of-care tools for practicing health care professionals. These calculators, which are based on SVS VQI data, can be accessed by downloading the free smartphone app ‘Calculate by QxMD’, currently available for iPhone, iPad, or Android through the App Store or Android Market. Users can access these calculators by navigating to the “Grouped” tab, selecting “VASCULAR SURGERY” and then “Tools Based on Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI) Data.” Detailed information can be obtained on the QxMD website at http://www.qxmd.com/apps/calculate-by-qxmd.
