Importance of Quality Improvement

The Quality Improvement program in the SVS VQI, under the SVS PSO Quality Director, supports individual centers and regions in the development, measurement and implementation of improved care projects using SVS VQI data.

In particular, the QI program supports the SVS VQI’s National Initiatives: Use of Discharge Medications and Endovascular AAA Long Term Follow-Up with Imaging. Both National Initiatives were created in response to improved outcomes observed at the regional level.

The program includes:

  • Development of quality improvement charters in documentation, clinical, discharge medications and long-term follow-up
  • Quality projects resulting in presentations and publications, including abstracts and posters presented at the SVS VQI Annual Meeting.
  • On-going support from the SVS PSO, including the SVS PSO QI Project Guide and National Initiative Supplement.
  • The QI projects also count towards the SVS VQI Participation Awards, where SVS VQI centers are awarded up to three Stars based on a combination of long term follow up, quality improvement projects, regional meeting attendance and the number of registry subscriptions.
